HIV Prevention & Management

For close to 4 years now years, LOCIFU has been providing hope and care to HIV-positive residents without any discrimination. Since 2018 when it was founded, LOCAL CITIZEN FOUNDATION UGANDA (LOCIFU) has provided exceptional care in the community to those affected by HIV/AIDS with the goal to educate, empower, and enrich lives.

Founded over 4 years ago, LOCAL CITIZEN FOUNDATION UGANDA (LOCIFU) is committed to a comprehensive response to fighting HIV and AIDS through, HIV Prevention by carrying out Education and Awareness campaigns, research, local advocacy, strengthening of local health care systems, and growing the capacity of People living with HIV and communities in the most affected local areas where we operate to respond to urgent needs. We’re driven to see a world where no other mother, child, or family is devastated by this disease. By the help and guidance of Our Staff who have immense knowledge and expertise in HIV PREVENTION & MANAGEMENT, Our Organization reaches out to the community through home visits, community dialogue with targeted messages. Through this, we refer the identified people especially those living with HIV to the health facilities for different services.

We have been able to form VILLAGE HEALTH TEAMS  commonly known as (VHT’s ) to help People living with HIV be able to get access to HIV Drugs. The organization uses community lay persons (VHTs) in empowering the communities to take in the decisions that affect their health; mobilize communities for health programs, and strengthen the delivery of health services through referral and linkage at house-hold level.

We have a story of Change for a one  - PETER NGAMBENAWE who is 22 years old and lives in Kabale District where he is currently working with our Organization as An HIV FOCAL PERSON as well as a peer counselor. His parents separated before he was born and after two months, his mother left him with his great grandmother. As an infant, Peter fell ill and after several tests, he was diagnosed with TB, which kept him admitted in a hospital for almost 10 months. He then faced multiple illnesses such as malaria, fever, rashes, and diarrhea, which attacked and weakened his immune system.

LOCIFU supported Peter in providing best meals for proper nutrition and giving the necessary Support he was lacking as a vulnerable youth living with HIV. We also enabled him to access the best and reliable counseling services .Up to now, we support him.

Peter Ngambenawe started falling sick at a young age and when he was diagnosed with HIV; he faced one challenge after another. However, through resilience and hard work, he was able to put himself through school and cease opportunities that came his way.

Our Organization is currently using him as a counsellor who uses this position to encourage other young people living positively to never give up. Now, Peter is an Ariel Superstar; he works with children and adolescents, attending Ariel Clubs across all the health facilities in partnership with LOCIFU, using his experience to encourage other young people to live positively where he counsels adolescents on positive living, and has done this for three years.
